I received the product today and did a rinse as recommended by the instructions manual.
The good: The filter was easy to use. Screw on the squeeze bag containing unfiltered water and fresh water comes out the other end. Simple. Flow rate was also very decent, I had expected much slower, though time will tell after repeated uses whether the flow rate remains.
The bad: Unfortunately, despite tightening it as far as I can, there is a slight leak where the squeeze bag connects to the filter when applying pressure on the bag, which is needed to ensure a good flow rate. This is not ideal as it can lead to cross-contamination, but one that we can try to avoid by holding the filter a little further away from the clean water bottle.
As we need to use the filter for a hike next week, there isn't enough time to return the product, otherwise I might have done so. Not sure if this is a general product issue or only the one we received. Might purchase a Sawyer or Lifestraw filter in future.
